Primarily a Jazz fan, I truly enjoy and appreciate most genres.

On a rainy April day in 2005, my first throw broke Floyd "Chunk" Simmons Mecklenburg County Senior Games discus record. He ran out on the field, wiped my discus with his towel, and brought it to me. Following a handshake and hug, Chunk stayed and rooted for me. I will never forget having a two-time Olympic medalist treat me in such a way.

With good throwing circles hard to come by, I used to practice on the youth ball field near my home. On one occasion, while attempting a basic spin, my right foot got caught in the grass, causing a premature release of the disc. I watched as it cleared the dugout and fence and smashed the windshield of the only automobile on the lot...mine. I have a shirt with the photo and the line "I must learn to throw straighter or park farther.

Great story Fred. I had an incident myself. I was getting over a sore shoulder and picked up a discus in my kitchen and was just sort of slowly swinging it back and forth just to see how my shoulder felt. While I was swinging it my dog and cat got into a fight in my living room and the noise startled me a bit and the discus slipped out of my hands and broke through my sliding glass door and then broke a glass top patio table on the deck.  Hearing the crash my daughter ran downstairs to see what happened.  After observing the mess she pulled out my tape and measured the throw at 7' 9'' my indoor personal record.

Unlike yourself, I limit my athletic efforts to throwing the discus. The first time I ever saw one, I was 62 years old. Thanks to good coaching and a lot of hard work, I've done quite good in the rankings. Senior Games and Masters are a major part of my life.

Where am I likely to run into you?
