Subject: Learning to Sprint at 55
Content: I was a life long distance runner until I got a virus in my heart about a year ago. My heart only pumps about 40% of what it should with each beat. My idea is that since sprinting doesn't require cardiovascular endurance maybe that is something I can try. My doctor said give it a shot. I'm talking 100 meters tops. I really don't know how to train for sprinting. I am currently doing leg and core exercises. I can exercise with intensity for about 20-25 seconds but then need several minutes of rest. My recollection from H.S. and college is that while we were pounding out 20 quarters or 8 x 800's on the track the sprinters were mainly standing around talking. Does anyone know of good resource material for older sprinters. Also what is considered a moderately good time for 100 yards or 100 meters for a 55 y/o male.
