hyperthyroidism and triathletes

Anybody have the latest info on hyperthyroidism and extreme athletes? I've been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and trying to sort out all possibilities. I live in a mountain town without an endocrinologist - except ones that are 2 hours away. So I go to a family MD. Since I'm a 10+ year triathlete with IM and Oly distances still competing, just want to know if anyone has had any experience with this topic and what suggested treatment would be.
