Hey all, I'm entering a 3v3 soccer tournament hosted by ZenFooty, a local soccer training academy, and I want to win. The problem is I have never played soccer before! So I'm using my position as Publisher of Masters Athlete and GeezerJock to shamelessly look for ringers! I'm looking for players who will be in the Chicago area over Memorial Day weekend who want to be on my team. I promise to not get in the way! The games will be on Sunday, May 25. Three games minimum, plus, of course, the championship!! The team can be coed, and we'll be in the Masters (25 and older) category. Who's in? I have been assured there will be ambulances and EMTs on standby. For info on the tournament, please visit www.zenfooty.com. Let me know!! Brian breilly@geezerjock.com

It was a beautiful weekend in Chicago, and on Saturday my wife and I took our kids to the local tennis courts to knock the ball around for a while. Being a goof, I tried to lob a ball a zillion miles into the sky. The ball went far off to the right, bounced out of the fenced-in court and rolled into the street. If you were driving by at that time, what would you have done? I'd like to think I'd stop my car, get out, pick up the ball and walk it back to the court and hand it to the players with a smile and a kind word. Truth is, I probably wouldn't have done that before Saturday. But that's exactly what a driver did for us. It was really nice. And next time I see an opportunity to help out, I'll jump at it.

Hi all, As I do at the beginning of every year, it seems, I've been tackling those few extra pounds that somehow creep up during the year. This year, though, I've been paying attention to some advice I got regarding heart rate. To burn fat, you want a slow, steady pace with your heart rate not getting too high. I've always just gone all-out in my workouts before and gotten my heart rate up way high. Well, this heart rate business seems to work. Staying slow and steady has helped me greatly. I've been shedding the pounds. I'm about to add some weight training into the training mix to increase my metabolism. I'll hit the spring training season in the best shape in years! Brian
